Hours: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM March through November. These hours apply to the office and shop, but the Observatory trails and facilities are accessible at all hours.

Broome Bird Obser­va­to­ry is locat­ed on the north shore of Roe­buck Bay, shore­bird cap­i­tal of Aus­tralia and one of the world’s great bird-watch­ing des­ti­na­tions.
We are a not-for-prof­it organ­i­sa­tion for research, edu­ca­tion and recre­ation­al bird-watching.

Stay overnight in our basic but com­fort­able air-con rooms, or camp in our bush camp­ground ($15 per adult per night, chil­dren 8 – 12 years $7.50, under 8s free) 

Take a short walk down to the beach or explore the trails around the BBO grounds.

Join us for Bird Log every evening — share your obser­va­tions and hear what oth­er birds and ani­mals have been seen around the area.

Learn about research based at the BBO — vis­i­tors are wel­come to par­tic­i­pate in our reg­u­lar mud-sam­pling and shore­bird band­ing activities.

We offer a vari­ety of accom­mo­da­tion includ­ing a self-con­tained cot­tage and basic sin­gle, dou­ble and fam­i­ly units in the accom­mo­da­tion block. Our small camp­ground pro­vides a peace­ful escape from the hus­tle and bus­tle of Broome car­a­van parks. Ameni­ties include toi­lets, hot show­ers, BBQ area, and our Shade­house”. The Shade­house is a ful­ly-equipped bush kitchen/​dining shel­ter with a large gas stove, sev­er­al refrig­er­a­tors, and plen­ty of seat­ing. It also pro­vides excel­lent views of our bird­baths, which can be enjoyed at any time of day. Linen is pro­vid­ed, but you will need to bring your own tow­el. Unfor­tu­nate­ly, we can­not accom­mo­date pets.

Bunk Room

Our basic units include bed(s), desk and chair, clos­et, and floor fan. Air con­di­tion­ing is pro­vid­ed in all rooms. Guests in the unit accom­mo­da­tion share toi­let, show­er, and kitchen/​dining facil­i­ties with the camp­ground guests. One bunk bed (two sin­gles) and is an excel­lent bud­get option for two friends; shared toilet/​shower and kitchen facil­i­ties. bed­ding pro­vid­ed bring your own tow­el. Rate: $60 per night (two-per­son bunk bed)

    Campsite - unpowered

    Room Configuration: Un-Powered Site

    Sleep under star­ry skies in our qui­et un-pow­ered camp­ground. We wel­come tents and trailers/​caravans. How­ev­er, because of the small size of, and nar­row access to, the camp­ground, it can be dif­fi­cult to manoeu­ver car­a­vans longer than 16 feet into our camp­sites. Rate: $18 per adult per night, and chil­dren aged 8 – 12 years old are $9/​night (chil­dren under 8 free) Unpow­ered sites in a bush set­ting. Toi­let and show­er blocks with hot water are near­by. Ful­ly-equipped camp kitchen and din­ing area. Chil­dren 8 – 12 yrs $7.50 per night; under 8s free.

      Chalet

      Room Configuration: 2 bedroom
      Max Guests: 6

      The Chalet was donat­ed to the BBO by Lord McAlpine from the Cable Beach Club in 1988. It is a ful­ly self-con­tained, rus­tic cot­tage with two bed­rooms (each with two sin­gle beds), a living/​kitchen area, and bath­room with show­er and toi­let. The kitchen is ful­ly equipped with a refrig­er­a­tor, gas stove and oven, and all basic cook­ing and serv­ing imple­ments. The chalet com­fort­ably sleeps four adults, and an addi­tion­al two can be accom­mo­dat­ed on the fold-out sofa. Air-con­di­tion­ing units are fit­ted in both bed­rooms, and the main liv­ing area is equipped with a ceil­ing fan. The chalet is a ful­ly self-con­tained Rate: $140 per night for the first 2 peo­ple, plus $20 per addi­tion­al per­son. 2 night stay min­i­mum. Two beds rooms with two sin­gle beds each, plus fold out sofa bed in main room; self-con­tained with kitchen and en-suite. Bed­ding pro­vid­ed but bring your own towels.

        Double Room

Guests in the unit accom­mo­da­tion share toi­let, show­er, and kitchen/​dining facil­i­ties with the camp­ground guests. Pro­vides roomy accom­mo­da­tion for cou­ples in one queen-size bed. Rate: $85 per night (dou­ble bed) one queen bed; shared toilet/​shower and kitchen facil­i­ties. Bed­ding pro­vid­ed but bring your own towels.

          Family Room

          Room Configuration: 1 Bedroom

          Our basic units include bed(s), desk and chair, clos­et, and floor fan. Air con­di­tion­ing is pro­vid­ed in all rooms. Guests in the unit accom­mo­da­tion share toi­let, show­er, and kitchen/​dining facil­i­ties with the camp­ground guests. Includes a queen-size bed and a bunk bed (two sin­gles). It is the per­fect accom­mo­da­tion for a fam­i­ly with chil­dren or for a small group of bud­get trav­ellers. Rate: $85 per night (dou­ble bed with a two-per­son bunk bed) one queen bed and one bunk bed; shared toilet/​shower and kitchen facil­i­ties. Bed­ding pro­vid­ed but bring your own towels.

            Single Room

            Our basic units include bed(s), desk and chair, clos­et, and floor fan. Air con­di­tion­ing is pro­vid­ed in all rooms. Guests in the unit accom­mo­da­tion share toi­let, show­er, and kitchen/​dining facil­i­ties with the camp­ground guests. One sin­gle bed; shared toilet/​shower and kitchen facil­i­ties. Bed­ding pro­vid­ed but bring your own tow­els (four avail­able) include one sin­gle bed for inde­pen­dent trav­ellers or group trav­ellers seek­ing the pri­va­cy of their own room. Rate: $45 per night (sleeps one person)
