Burnarri Anja: This Bird Here Exhibition at Redbill Studio Gallery
Burnarri Anja: This Bird Here Exhibition at Redbill Studio Gallery. This is a very special solo exhibition coming up in the gallery by Mildred Mungulu.
In her debut solo exhibition, Mildred Mungulu presents a collection of works on paper, capturing the rich birdlife of her homeland. Using traditional ochre pigments—crushed and mixed to create deep, earthy tones—her works pay homage to the ancient cave paintings that have existed in her Country for thousands of years.
Native Australian birds hold a significant place in First Nations storytelling, playing a vital role in the transmission of knowledge, language, and culture. These stories reflect a deep, interconnected worldview—one that honors the relationships between all living things. Many of these birds are also revered as totems, embodying cultural and spiritual significance.
Across cultures, birds serve as messengers and symbols, carrying stories that guide us in how to live in harmony with the world around us. Through this exhibition, Mildred invites us to see and understand these connections, celebrating both the beauty of birds and the wisdom they carry.
