Join us for the third CinefestOZ Broome! Unfolding from 24 – 27th October 2024, enjoy a four-day immersive film experience in the gorgeous Kimberley.
CinefestOZ Broome First Nations Film Festival
Set in the centre of Broome, the festival comprises a mix of feature film screenings and special events spread across cinemas and venues. The festival will celebrate the importance of on-screen storytelling in connecting communities and fostering reconciliation in the Kimberley and beyond, giving attendees the opportunity to experience in- conversation filmmaker discussions centred around championing First Nations stories.
CinefestOZ and Goolarri Media respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we gather, the Yawuru people. We recognise their continued connection to country of this beautiful place and acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. We show our respect to the Elders and Ancestors of the First Nations people that are a part of our Festival and celebrate the traditional and contemporary storytelling of the oldest living culture.

Ka Whawhai Tonu Film

Set in 1864 in Aotearoa New Zealand, Ka Whawhai Tonu tells the story of an important battle during the initial land wars in the Waikato region. It shows the clash between Māori and Colonial forces, where two rangatahi find themselves caught up in the chaos of battle.
The intense retelling of history in this film may be upsetting or confronting for viewers who whakapapa Māori, particularly descendants of those who fought in this land war or one of the many historic land wars between Māori and Colonial forces.

Our Medicine is a ground-breaking observational series, which takes viewers behind the frontline of our strained medical services, and joins patients on their emotional journeys through the system. In this character-driven documentary series First Nations doctors, nurses, paramedics, midwives and traditional healers operating on the medical front-line are filmed right across Australia, as they push themselves to their limits trying to achieve better health outcomes for their First Nations patients and communities. Narrated by Leah Purcell, Our Medicine is directed by Kimberley Benjamin and Karla Hart, and produced by Karla and Sam Field.

CinefestOZ – Australia’s premiere destination film festival – is proud to announce The Moogai, written and directed by Jon Bell and starring Shari Sebbens and Meyne Wyatt, as the winner of Australia’s richest $100,000 Film Prize for an Australian feature film or feature-length documentary.
