A Warmun Art Centre Group Exhibition. From the depths of Country to the hearts of its people, Gija’s healing waters flow through story, art, memory, and spirit.

The Living Healing Water of Gija Country is a powerful and evocative group exhibition that celebrates the rich and enduring legacy of the Gija people. It honours the sacred waters that nourish and connect Country, culture, and community; eternal sources of life, story, and Law.

EXHIBITION from 22 August to 7 September 2025

Warmun Art Centre- the heART & soul of Gija culture, stands as a vibrant cultural sanctuary on Gija land. Surrounded by ancient Boab trees and striking geological formations, the Centre is home to over 60 artists across five generations, aged between 10 and 92. Their practice seamlessly weaves sacred ancestral knowledge with bold contemporary expression. Recognised as one of Australia’s most significant cultural institutions, Warmun Art Centre is 100% community-owned and community-led: a beacon of Gija self-determination and cultural excellence. Its artists are represented in major collections across Australia and around the world, their work admired for its beauty, depth, and truth.

This exhibition showcases powerful works by both senior and emerging artists. Each piece is an expression of deep cultural knowledge and enduring connection to Country. Waterholes, springs, creeks, and rivers; places alive with Ngarranggarni (Dreaming), continue to heal, guide, and sustain the Gija people.

Located in the heart of the East Kimberley, where the awe-inspiring Bungle Bungles (Purnululu) meet the rugged Gibb Ranges, Warmun artists gather natural ochres from the land, grounding their works in the very Country they honour.

These paintings speak of intergenerational resilience, two-way healing, and the strength that flows from walking in deep relationship with Country.

Healing Waters invites audiences to immerse themselves in this living legacy — where stories are painted, spirits are honoured, and the ancestral flow of wisdom continues unbroken.

Artists featured include: Kathy Ramsay, Tracey Ramsay, Monica Cann, Frances Cann, Evelyn Malgil, Jonathon Malgil, Madeline Purdie, Tatum Rivers-Purdie, Eileen Bray, Troy Drill, Lorraine Daylight, Cecil Mosquito, Michael Budbarria Mung, and others.
