On arrival at Broome Air­port please make your way to the Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa desk locat­ed in the arrivals lounge. You will be direct­ed to the Cable Beach Club Resort’s cour­tesy bus for your trans­fer to the resort. Day 2. Please meet your Dri­ver-Guide in the foy­er of Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa, Broome at 6:00am. If you have not been met with­in 15 min­utes please con­tact APT Broome Oper­a­tions Office on the advised num­ber. Your day starts with a vis­it to the fas­ci­nat­ing Boab Prison Tree. Believed to be more than 1,500 years old and mea­sur­ing an incred­i­ble 14 metres in diam­e­ter, this remark­able tree was once used by ear­ly police patrols as a stand­ing point for pris­on­ers as they were walked to Der­by. Today, the hol­low tree is a reg­is­tered Abo­rig­i­nal site of great cul­tur­al sig­nif­i­cance. Con­tin­ue your jour­ney along the Gibb Riv­er Road, a remote 660-kilo­me­tre out­back high­way stretch­ing between Broome and Kununur­ra. The ​‘Gibb’ tra­vers­es the wild heart of the Kim­ber­ley, pass­ing spec­tac­u­lar land­scapes of intense­ly coloured ranges, dra­mat­ic gorges, deep rock pools and spec­tac­u­lar water­falls. Turn off to vis­it Wind­jana Gorge, where sheer cliffs tow­er above glis­ten­ing white sands. Admire the ancient marine fos­sils embed­ded in the gorge walls and scour the banks for fresh­wa­ter croc­o­diles. Con­tin­ue on to explore Tun­nel Creek, a 750-metre-long nat­ur­al tun­nel carved through the Napi­er Range. With torch in hand, wade through the cool waters that fill the tun­nel and emerge on the oth­er side to the sight of a tran­quil and stun­ning oasis. Lat­er, arrive at Fitzroy Cross­ing. BLD Day 3. Trav­el to Dan­ngu Geikie Gorge Nation­al Park and explore mag­nif­i­cent Geikie Gorge. Flood­ing of the riv­er has bleached the walls white over time — an intrigu­ing sight that makes it pop­u­lar with pho­tog­ra­phers. Board a unique cruise along the stun­ning gorge and learn more about the beau­ti­ful flo­ra and fau­na of this spec­tac­u­lar region. Enjoy a vis­it to Halls Creek, before trav­el­ling to Pur­nu­l­u­lu Nation­al Park, one of Australia’s most stun­ning nat­ur­al land­scapes. Expe­ri­ence the first of three APT exclu­sive Wilder­ness Lodges as you set­tle into the tran­quil ambi­ence of the Bun­gle Bun­gle Wilder­ness Lodge, locat­ed in the heart of this stun­ning Nation­al Park. Enjoy a deli­cious open air din­ner with your fel­low guests tonight. BLD Day 4. Explore the mag­ic of Pur­nu­l­u­lu for your­self and dis­cov­er the depth of the Bun­gle Bun­gle Range. The park is home to the famed black and orange striped domes, ascend­ing to 578 metres above sea lev­el. Stand­ing over a grass-cov­ered plain, steep cliffs form the west­ern face. Cre­at­ed by the con­stant ero­sion of riv­er move­ments over a stag­ger­ing 20 mil­lion years, the range has both geo­log­i­cal and Indige­nous cul­tur­al sig­nif­i­cance. It is an impos­ing sight and one that you are sure to remem­ber for­ev­er. Walk along Pic­canin­ny Creek, a wind­ing gorge with­in the Bun­gle Bun­gle domes. Your next stop is the nat­ur­al amphithe­atre of Cathe­dral Gorge, a spa­cious cav­ern where the acoustics are astound­ing. Mar­vel at the majes­tic bee­hive domes as your guide brings the nat­ur­al his­to­ry of the range to life. You may like to expe­ri­ence an option­al scenic heli­copter flight over the domes (own expense). This evening, enjoy drinks as the sun sets over the strik­ing bee­hive dome for­ma­tions of the icon­ic Bun­gle Bun­gle mas­sif. BLD Day 5. Join a hike with your Dri­ver-Guide along a Livis­tona palm-fringed trail into Echid­na Chasm, a spec­tac­u­lar nat­ur­al cleft in the rock. Farewell the Bun­gle Bun­gle Range and trav­el along the Spring Creek Track through glo­ri­ous rugged red land­scapes to Kununur­ra, the gate­way to the east­ern Kim­ber­ley and the home of the Ord Riv­er Scheme, which is one of Australia’s great­est engi­neer­ing feats. BLD Day 6. Trav­el to the majes­tic Lake Argyle, the largest man-made lake in the South­ern Hemi­sphere. Join an unfor­get­table wildlife cruise on the mighty Ord Riv­er. From a mod­ern shad­ed ves­sel, dis­cov­er a fas­ci­nat­ing eco­log­i­cal sys­tem that has devel­oped from the damming of the Ord Riv­er at two loca­tions to cre­ate an area rich in wildlife, flo­ra and unde­ni­able beau­ty. Lat­er, enjoy a mes­meris­ing sun­set while cruis­ing on Lake Kununur­ra. This evening enjoy Din­ner and relax with­in the sur­rounds of your hotel. BLD Day 7. Vis­it the serene Parry’s Lagoon, a splen­did birdwatcher’s par­adise. Head to Wyn­d­ham and view the breath­tak­ing Cam­bridge Gulf from the spec­tac­u­lar Five Rivers Look­out. Enjoy lunch before arriv­ing at El Que­stro, which cov­ers a stag­ger­ing 700,000 acres. After­wards, make your way to Emma Gorge Resort, where you will enjoy din­ner this evening. BLD Day 8. After a hearty break­fast, con­tin­ue to explore remark­able El Que­stro. Soak in the delec­table hot pools of Zebedee Springs and leave feel­ing revi­talised. Hike to the pic­turesque Emma Gorge and be reward­ed with a revi­tal­is­ing swim beneath a tow­er­ing droplet water­fall. Lat­er, cross the mighty Pen­te­cost Riv­er into icon­ic Home Val­ley Sta­tion, an immense cat­tle prop­er­ty. Dis­cov­er the spell­bind­ing scenery that cap­ti­vat­ed audi­ences in Baz Luhrmann’s movie ​‘Aus­tralia’, includ­ing the impos­ing yet strik­ing­ly beau­ti­ful Cock­burn Range. Head to a superb view­ing area as you savour this inspi­ra­tional set­ting with sun­set drinks, as you gaze out to the ever-chang­ing colours of the Cock­burn Range as the sun retreats. BLD Day 9. Back on the Gibb Riv­er Road, ford the mighty Durack Riv­er, then turn off and trav­el north on the Kalum­bu­ru Road towards the iso­lat­ed Mitchell Plateau. Along the way, stop at Drys­dale Riv­er Sta­tion for lunch. After­wards, enter a remote world of Livis­tona palm forests, beau­ti­ful look­outs, mag­nif­i­cent water­falls and iso­lat­ed swim­ming holes. For the next two nights, expe­ri­ence APT’s Mitchell Falls Wilder­ness Lodge, with its Ungolan Pavil­ion, where you can relax in the lounge, treat your­self to a drink or read up on the local cul­ture. In the heart of the Mitchell Plateau, your accom­mo­da­tion is per­fect­ly posi­tioned beside the Pan­danus palm-fringed Camp Creek, where you can enjoy a refresh­ing dip. Per­haps unwind with a drink as the sun sets, then lat­er this evening, be treat­ed to a tan­ta­lis­ing din­ner that show­cas­es the region’s finest local pro­duce. Today you have a full day to dis­cov­er the beau­ty of Mitchell Falls, with its mag­nif­i­cent tiered water­falls and Indige­nous art. When avail­able, local Abo­rig­i­nal guides will join the adven­ture, impart­ing their knowl­edge of the area and shar­ing their cul­tur­al beliefs. Begin with a guid­ed hike to Lit­tle Mertens Falls to view rarely seen Indige­nous rock art. Con­tin­ue to Big Mertens Falls before arriv­ing at the incred­i­ble Mitchell Falls. With superb scenery and rich cul­ture, you can swim in the pools above the falls and spot the region’s abun­dant wildlife. We have also includ­ed a heli­copter flight over Mitchell Falls and the sur­round­ing wilder­ness back to the vehi­cle or, if you pre­fer, hike back with your guide. Longer heli­copter flights over this cap­ti­vat­ing and remote coast­line are avail­able at an addi­tion­al expense. Lat­er, it’s time to return to your Wilder­ness Lodge to relax, know­ing you have just expe­ri­enced a day most peo­ple can only dream of. Per­haps spend some time in front of the camp fire recount­ing today’s tales. BLD Day 11. The Kimberley’s rock art is arguably some of the world’s old­est, with evi­dence sug­gest­ing the ear­li­est occu­pa­tion in the region dates back 50,000 to 60,000 years ago. Vis­it Wand­ji­na and Brad­shaw Art (Gwion Gwion) gal­leries and swim in the clear waters at King Edward Riv­er. Cross the beau­ti­ful Drys­dale Riv­er and arrive at Drys­dale Riv­er Sta­tion, where you will enjoy a unique stay at this his­toric cat­tle prop­er­ty, includ­ing a deli­cious din­ner. BLD Day 12. Trav­el through the heart of Kim­ber­ley cat­tle coun­try to dis­cov­er some of the region’s most seclud­ed gorges. At beau­ti­ful Man­ning Gorge, you’ll enjoy lunch in the shade of paper­bark trees. Look out for the region’s bird life and enjoy a refresh­ing swim in the pris­tine water. Con­tin­ue to Gal­vans Gorge, where a short walk leads to a pic­turesque water­hole where boab trees cling to the escarp­ment above and you can take a leisure­ly swim. Lat­er, arrive at Bell Gorge Wilder­ness Lodge in time for din­ner, which will become your home for the next two nights. The remark­able lodge is sit­u­at­ed in an envi­able posi­tion, with a sprawl­ing lawn to relax and unwind, while offer­ing stun­ning views of the King Leopold Range. BLD Day 13. Back on the Gibb Riv­er Road, trav­el to Bell Gorge, where stun­ning cliffs sur­round a series of tiered water­holes. Sit­ting approx­i­mate­ly 300 metres above sea lev­el, Bell Gorge is an idyl­lic nat­ur­al spot for swim­ming and pho­tog­ra­phy. Here you can also enjoy a spot of bird-watch­ing. Should you be feel­ing par­tic­u­lar­ly ener­getic, you may take the oppor­tu­ni­ty to hike to the low­er pool of the gorge and enjoy a relax­ing dip below the cas­cad­ing water­fall. BLD Day 14. Today, trav­el through the Wil­ing­gin King Leopold Range Con­ser­va­tion Park to Der­by, where you will vis­it the Mowan­jum Art and Cul­ture Cen­tre. Return to the icon­ic Cable Beach Club Resort and Spa and lat­er this evening, per­haps enjoy a drink over­look­ing Cable Beach before enjoy­ing a spe­cial Farewell Din­ner at your resort.
