About

Since his last exhibition at Redbill Studio Gallery, David has continued to expand his creative practice, exploring new directions in both painting and sculpture. His long-standing fascination with wildlife features strongly in this exhibition, with a series of studies of birds and native animals. Alongside these works, David presents a finely carved wooden sculpture of a black cockatoo — a piece that reflects both patience and precision in capturing the delicacy of its feathers.

The exhibition also includes landscapes inspired by David’s travels through the Kimberley, as well as a selection of life studies drawn from his ongoing practice at KAN Life Drawing. Together, these works offer a glimpse into the breadth of his artistic interests and his deep connection to both place and subject.

Originally from Victoria, David began his working life as a carpenter before discovering, while travelling overseas in his early twenties, that his paintings could find an audience. What began as a hobby quickly grew into a self-taught artistic career. After returning to Australia, he continued painting before spending time in Papua New Guinea, where he found particular success with portraits of local people.

Since then, David has travelled widely, always returning to Australia, and for the past six years has called Broome home. His work continues to evolve, shaped by his experiences, surroundings, and enduring curiosity.

Exhibition Runs 29 May - 10th June
