EV Charging and Fuel Stops
These resources outlines fuel stops throughout the Kimberley, and EV charging locations.
A few handy tips
- Understanding the distances between fuel stops can be a very important factor when planning travel in the Kimberley, particularly for routes like the Gibb River Road.
- Always leave with a full tank and plan your fuel stops ahead of time.
- Carry extra fuel (jerry cans) for remote travel in case your next fuel stop is unavailable or closed.
- Missing a fuel stop can leave you stranded.
- Most travellers need access to Unleaded Petrol (91) or Diesel. Premium fuels (95/98) are not readily available outside of major towns. The Kimberley runs heavily on diesel.
- Some fuels locations are card-only terminals that may operate on restricted hours or may close early.
- Don’t rely on cash in remote areas for fuel purchases and have more than one payment method (different bankcards suggested), so you have a backup method or two.
- Many roadhouses switch to card-only pumps outside staffed hours. This allows 24/7 fuel access even in very remote locations.
- Some remote sites may have no shop, no cash handling and minimal facilities.
WA EV Network

Synergy and Horizon Power worked with the State Government to create Australia’s longest connected Electric Vehicle (EV) charging network (the WA EV Network). EV drivers have access to more than 100 fast and ultra-fast charging points across 49 locations, from Mundrabilla at the South Australian border to Kununurra in the far north of Western Australia.
PlugShare

PlugShare is an open source tool that is free to use and lets EV drivers see information about most EV charging stations, along with details about charging speeds and plug types. PlugShare has a useful trip planning function that will show where various EV charging stations are located along your chosen route. You can download the PlugShare app from the Apple store (IOS) or Google Play (Android).
