Turn Scraps Into Soil: Free Composting Workshop
Join the Shire of Broome for a hands-on introduction to composting using Soil Food Web principles, including hot composting and the Johnson-Su method on Thursday 7th May, from 5pm - 6.30pm at Broome Circle. In this engaging workshop, you’ll learn how to design and build a basic compost system, understand the science behind microbial-rich composting, and explore what materials to use (and which to avoid) for best results. Discover how healthy soil biology improves water retention and nutrient availability, leading to stronger, more resilient plants. We’ll also explore how composting is a simple, low-cost way to turn food scraps and garden waste into a powerful soil improver, reducing landfill while regenerating your garden. Whether you’re brand new to composting or looking to refine your skills, this session will give you practical knowledge and confidence to create high-quality compost at home. Got questions or past composting challenges? Bring your experiences along and learn together as we grow healthier soils and gardens in Broome.
