In 2026, Yawuru's NAIDOC Community Day carries particular significance. This year marks 50 years of NAIDOC celebrations nationally and occurs alongside the 20-year anniversary of the Rubibi Native Title Determination, one of the most significant milestones in Yawuru history.

In recognition of this important milestone, Nyamba Buru Yawuru has been selected as the 2026 Kullarri NAIDOC Focus Organisation. This acknowledges Yawuru's contribution to community, culture, leadership and self-determination, and provides an opportunity to share the significance of the Rubibi determination with the broader Broome community.

The event also embraces the spirit of National Reconciliation Week's theme, "All In", recognising that reconciliation requires collective commitment, shared responsibility and active participation from all Australians.

Through gathering on Country at Gurlbin-wula, the Yawuru community and broader Broome community are invited to celebrate cultural strength, recognise important milestones and spend time together in a place of significance.
