Crimson DesArt
Crimson DesArt – It’s In The Blood is more than an art practice; it is a living expression of story, culture, and connection. Our journey began through a deep desire to honour family, heritage, and the powerful narratives carried through generations. What started as a personal exploration has grown into a meaningful creative path, one grounded in identity, resilience, and the enduring strength of culture. Sarah Cox is a proud Aboriginal woman of Wongkathaa and Banjima descent on her mother’s side, and of Scottish heritage on her father’s side. Her family history is shaped by the strength and resilience of her grandparents, who were part of the Stolen Generations and were raised at Sister Kate’s Children’s Home in Perth. Their experiences and life journeys deeply influence Sarah’s creative and personal identity.
In exploring her family’s stories and cultural connections, Sarah founded Crimson DesArt – It’s In The Blood – a creative practice that honours ancestral memory, cultural survival, and the power of visual storytelling.
Sarah has been married for over 20 years to a Nyikina, Nirrumburu, Bard and Noongar man from the Kimberley. Together, they live in Broome with their three sons, balancing cultural life, family, and community. Alongside her work as an artist, Sarah is also a dedicated primary school teacher, passionate about passing on knowledge, culture, and creativity to the next generation.
Living just out of town, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Kimberley, Sarah draws constant inspiration from the land. Being immersed in nature is an essential part of both life and art, shaping the textures, colours, and stories that emerge in her work.
Sarah’s paintings are a dynamic blend of vibrant and earthy tones. Her style is expressive and tactile, with flowing forms, bold strokes, and richly textured surfaces that often feel rough to the touch. Her works speak where words fall short, telling stories that are both deeply personal and universally felt. Through her art, Sarah aims to foster connection, reflection, and healing, creating pieces that leave a lasting and positive impact.
Crimson DesArt offers a beautiful and diverse range of artworks and products to suit all budgets. Alongside original paintings, the collection includes high-quality prints, 1000-piece and 70-piece jigsaws, beach towels, tablecloths, table runners, notebooks, coasters, and greeting cards, allowing people to experience and connect with the artwork in their everyday lives.
