John Miller Design - Broome

Australian Fine Art Jewellery.
Artist-jeweller John Miller returns once again to the town that shaped his creative vision, presenting an iconic collection of Broome-inspired jewellery drawn from the land and seascapes of the North.
Regarded as one of Australia’s most original and accomplished fine jewellery designers, John Miller is known for his hand-worked, bespoke sterling silver and gold pieces inspired by native flora, fauna and the elements. He opened Broome’s first jewellery shop, Dampier’s Chest, in 1979 and was the town’s first resident jeweller. His work was shaped by the enduring icons of the Kimberley, lugger boats, pearls and shellfish, seashells, divers and mermaids, influences that remain central to his distinctive style.
After 25 years living and working in Yallingup in the Southwest, John returned to Broome a few short years ago with a highly successful pop-up exhibition at Redbill Gallery, celebrating 50 years of jewellery making. Building on that success, he has now come back to Broome once again, opening in the heart of Chinatown at 12A Carnarvon Street, with new pieces inspired by Broome.
John Miller’s connection to the Kimberley runs deep. His mother was the celebrated author and historian Dame Mary Durack, and his father was pioneer aviator Horrie Miller, director of MacRobertson Miller Airlines, who was based in Broome as regional director during the airline’s formative years.
More than 40 years on from his earliest exhibitions in Broome, and over five decades into his jewellery-making career, John Miller returns with work that continues to honour place, history and a lifelong creative connection to the North.
