Kimberley Marine Support Base

Optimising marine logistics in the North West.
Kimberley Marine Support Base (KMSB) has developed a modern marine logistics facility within the Port of Broome, and designed specifically for Broome’s unique environment and extreme tidal fluctuation. Strategically positioned and purpose-built to serve and support the mining, energy, cargo, agriculture, and cruise sectors. Strategically positioned to serve vessels operating across the Kimberley and Pilbara regions, KMSB offers a robust and flexible logistics solution.
At the heart of the facility is a state-of-the-art floating wharf, engineered to operate 24⁄7 despite Broome’s extreme tidal variations. The 11,500+ tonne, 9,250 square metre structure features a 255-metre berth line, northern and southern dolphins, a 400-metre bi-directional causeway, and an 85-metre linkspan bridge.
KMSB is equipped for high-load operations, including a high-capacity mobile harbour crane for cargo, subsea equipment, and modules. Integrated diesel bunkering delivers up to 200,000 litres per hour. The facility also includes over 20 hectares of landside capability, progressively coming online to support just-in-time staging and broader project mobilisation.
Designed to handle a wide array of cargo formats — containerised freight, bulk and break-bulk cargo, construction modules, critical minerals, and roll-on/roll-off vessels, KMSB also accommodates oversized components such as wind turbine blades, solar systems, and commercial battery imports for the renewable energy sector.
The new facility officially opened on Friday, 12 September 2025.
