Kimberley Art & Photographic Prize, Derby WA

Art ExhibitionArt event
Monday, July 13, 2026
10:00am - 3:00pm
Gold Coin Donation
Derby Airport Terminal, Derby WA

REGIONAL EVENT! Established in 1970, the Kimberley Art and Photographic Prize (KAPP) is one of Australia's most remote art competitions and one of the longest running Art Prizes in Western Australia. Originally facilitated by the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley (SDWK) as the Kimberley Art Prize, it was launched to showcase the artistic talent of residents from the Kimberley region. Over the years, KAPP has evolved into a major cultural event, attracting both emerging and established artists from across the country. The art prize became an acquisitive award in 1978, with the SDWK adding the winning pieces to its substantial art collection, now featuring works from some of the Kimberley’s most talented artists. In 2012, due to growing interest in photography, the Kimberley Photographic Award (KPA) was created as a separate category, allowing photography to flourish alongside the art prize. With a $36,000 in Prizes across eleven categories, KAPP has played a significant role in elevating Indigenous art and launching the careers of emerging artists. The festival now runs for two weeks during the Boab Festival in July, offering a platform for local, regional, and national artists to exhibit their work, and engage with the broader community through exhibitions, workshops, and other cultural activities. Exhibition runs from 6 - 17 July 2026 at the Derby Airport Terminal, Derby WA. Find out more here

Spare Parts Puppet Theatre's - Beanstalk

Family friendly event
Monday, July 13, 2026
5:30pm - 7:00pm
From $15
Broome Civic Centre

Everyone knows Jack’s story, but what about the giants? Do we really know what happened that day when Jack unexpectedly barged into the giant’s kitchen? Was it the grim fee-fi-fo-fum bone-crunching tale we’ve all grown up with, or is there a different story waiting to be told? Beanstalk is the hilarious retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk told from the giant’s point of view. Step into Brian’s cloud-making kitchen where he cooks up carrots, fluffy clouds and a few stories from his not-so-easy life as a giant. Funny, unapologetically playful and utterly charming, Beanstalk will have you laughing at the antics of a loaf of bread (Jack), reeling in horror at the squishing of a tomato (a villager), and marvelling at the clever trickery that brings the magic of cloud creation to life. Duration: 50 mins + 10min Q&A. Monday 13th July. TICKETS HERE Age suitability: Perfect for 5+ but suitable for everyone! Show starts: 5:45pm.
