Shinju Matsuri Festival 2026

The Broome Courthouse Markets are held in the beautiful heritage listed gardens of the Broome Courthouse. Trading every Saturday all year, and Sundays during high season. The Broome Courthouse Markets are located on the corner of Frederick and Hamersley Street.

Come celebrate the Old Broome Road Shared Path upgrade! The upgraded pathway is complete, making it easier and safer to walk, ride, run and roll around Broome. Join us at Male Oval for a community morning of free activities, bike checks, fitness sessions, children's activities and more. Plus, use the pathway during the event and receive a complimentary coffee or smoothie voucher to redeem at participating Chinatown businesses (while stocks last!).

Join us at Redbill Studio Gallery for a special exhibition celebrating the work of Bidyadanga artists. Featuring works from Jenny Butt, Bibianna Tumbler and Corina Jadal. Exhibition Dates: 15 – 27 August. Opening Hours: Monday - Saturday, 10:30am - 2pm. Located in the gardens near Matso's Brewery. All welcome.

The story of 'Millie the Black Kite' is based on the story of a famous Broome bird who accidently hitched a ride to Bali. This beautiful, interactive puppet performance is the result of a collaboration between a Broome and Indonesian puppet companies. The story is told using a multitude of puppets. The story is a reflection on the impact of human intervention in the lives of animals, the importance of understanding the needs of wildlife in a changing world, a call for humanity and understanding, and what it means to be free. It is suitable for all ages, but children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. BUY TICKETS. All tickets include a free Puppet Workshop an hour prior to the show commencing. The Shinju Matsuri Opening Ball presented by Dahlia Designs is returning once again and this years theme is ROCK N ROLL! Featuring Bevan Sidebottom and the Smooth Tones. Not just any rock n roll, we’re talking about the birth of rock n roll, from where it all began. Little Richard, Buddy Holly, the Supremes and the King of Rock n Roll – Mr Elvis Presley! Watch the Shinju Matsuri Float Parade from above with cocktails, complimentary finger food and one of Broome’s best balcony views. Join us at The Broome Closet for Floats from the Closet, a relaxed afternoon celebrating the colour, excitement and community spirit of the Shinju Matsuri Float Parade. From our Level 1 balcony overlooking Dampier Terrace, you’ll have a fantastic vantage point as the parade makes its way through Chinatown. Settle in with a cocktail, enjoy the atmosphere from above and watch the floats, performers and festivities pass by below. The event is free to attend, with complimentary finger food served between 3:00pm and 5:00pm. Our full cocktail and drinks menu will be available throughout the afternoon.

This free community event features colorful local floats, marching groups, and the traditional appearance of Sammy the Dragon winding through Chinatown. The Shinju Matsuri Float Parade is one of the most traditional events on our program, being part of the festival since the very early days. The stunning array of floats represents the diversity of the Broome community, being created by local community groups, schools, performance groups & local businesses. Carnival of Nations, is a much loved Shinju Matsuri event. Join us for a celebration of diversity and culture via a series of unique immersive performances & cultural displays. Grab your picnic rug and a bite to eat from the line-up of local food vans, before taking in a visual feast for all ages, paying homage to the rich and diverse cultural tapestry of Broome then and now.
