The Floating Lanterns is a free community event. One of the most beautiful moments of the festival. Inspired by the Japanese Obon celebration, this ceremony honours loved ones with lanterns drifting on the waters. Held at Gantheaume Beach, this special evening is a tribute to loved ones past and present. Create a personalised lantern, gently release your lantern into the sea and take a moment to reflect.

Broome Town Band is a welcoming community concert band bringing people together through music. Established in 2023, we welcome musicians of all ages and abilities and love performing at community events throughout Broome. See them play on Sunday 30th August from 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM. Come along, enjoy some live music, and experience the fun and energy of our local community band. Whether you’re a music lover, a proud Broome local, or simply looking for something enjoyable to do, we’d love to see you there! The Staircase to the Moon is a natural phenomenon observed in Broome Western Australia between April and October only. It is caused by the rising of a full moon reflecting on the exposed mudflats at extremely low tide creating a beautiful optical illusion of a staircase reaching up to the moon.

Sunday just got a whole lot better…The Sunday Roast is BACK from 5pm this week at Bali Hai Cafe. Join us for the Shinju Jam Sesh at the Festival Hub. Bring your acoustic instrument and join us for a relaxed community jam by the bay. Sunday 30th August from 5pm - 7.30pm. Pull up a chair or settle onto a patch of grass as musicians & music lovers of all ages and abilities come together to share songs, swap tunes and enjoy the simple joy of making music together. Whether you’d like to lead a song, suggest songs, join in or simply soak up the atmosphere, everyone is welcome. There’s no stage, no pressure and no expectations, just a welcoming circle of people connected by music. The bar will be open, food will be available, and as the afternoon drifts into evening, the beautiful backdrop of Town Beach provides the perfect setting to share songs, stories and good company. Bring an acoustic instrument, bring a friend, and let’s make some music together.

Live Music: Jake Stephen at the Shinju Matsuri Festival Hub, Town Beach from 6pm-8pm on Monday 31st August. Free event. Jake Stephen has been a mainstay in the Broome music scene for over a decade. You’ve probably seen him in a local band or two whether that be The Turps or Turbo Dogs, or maybe you’ve seen him perform at Nannup Music Festival or Blues at Bridgetown. Jake has been recording his original music in preparation for an album release in the (hopefully) near future. Expect plenty of original music as he comes to the Shinju Hub for one night only.

Shinju Matsuri Art Awards presented by the Shire of Broome - where the board of judges will be announcing and awarding the winners of 8 art categories. Monday 31st August from 6pm - 8pm at the Broome Civic Centre. With a drink on arrival, explore the bold, the brilliant, and the boundary-pushing artworks in this year’s awards. The exhibition will stay open daily from 10am-4pm Tuesday 1st September to Saturday 5th September and 10am-2pm on Sunday, 6th September.
