He writes from a converted dairy on Cave's Road, surfs when he's not strumming, and fronts the gypsy ska band Freeway South when the mood strikes. The Floating Lanterns is a free community event. One of the most beautiful moments of the festival. Inspired by the Japanese Obon celebration, this ceremony honours loved ones with lanterns drifting on the waters. Held at Gantheaume Beach, this special evening is a tribute to loved ones past and present. Create a personalised lantern, gently release your lantern into the sea and take a moment to reflect.

The Staircase to the Moon is a natural phenomenon observed in Broome Western Australia between April and October only. It is caused by the rising of a full moon reflecting on the exposed mudflats at extremely low tide creating a beautiful optical illusion of a staircase reaching up to the moon.
