The story of 'Millie the Black Kite' is based on the story of a famous Broome bird who accidently hitched a ride to Bali. This beautiful, interactive puppet performance is the result of a collaboration between a Broome and Indonesian puppet companies. The story is told using a multitude of puppets. The story is a reflection on the impact of human intervention in the lives of animals, the importance of understanding the needs of wildlife in a changing world, a call for humanity and understanding, and what it means to be free. It is suitable for all ages, but children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. BUY TICKETS. All tickets include a free Puppet Workshop an hour prior to the show commencing. The Floating Lanterns is a free community event. One of the most beautiful moments of the festival. Inspired by the Japanese Obon celebration, this ceremony honours loved ones with lanterns drifting on the waters. Held at Gantheaume Beach, this special evening is a tribute to loved ones past and present. Create a personalised lantern, gently release your lantern into the sea and take a moment to reflect.

The Staircase to the Moon is a natural phenomenon observed in Broome Western Australia between April and October only. It is caused by the rising of a full moon reflecting on the exposed mudflats at extremely low tide creating a beautiful optical illusion of a staircase reaching up to the moon.

Shinju Matsuri Art Awards presented by the Shire of Broome - where the board of judges will be announcing and awarding the winners of 8 art categories. Monday 31st August from 6pm - 8pm at the Broome Civic Centre. With a drink on arrival, explore the bold, the brilliant, and the boundary-pushing artworks in this year’s awards. The exhibition will stay open daily from 10am-4pm Tuesday 1st September to Saturday 5th September and 10am-2pm on Sunday, 6th September.

'A Stargazers Guide to the Cosmos' presented by Astro Tours, remembering Local Legend Greg Quicke. Tuesday 1st September from 6pm - 8pm.
