Opening Ceremony presented by Paspaley Pearls. The Opening Ceremony kicks off the Shinju Matsuri Festival's 16-day celebration of Broome’s vibrant culture. Explore the unique history and rich multicultural tapestry of our community through an exciting array of events! Join us at Town Beach to celebrate the official opening of Shinju Matsuri with a special Yawuru “Welcome to Country”, speeches and a variety of performances, before the traditional of Waking of Sammy the Dragon. Friday 21st August from 4pm - 6pm at the Shinju Matsuri Festival Hub, Town Beach.

Presented by Pigram Productions “A Walk with the Giants” is an acoustic showcase featuring Indigenous singer-songwriters from across the Kimberley Region. Each artist will perform original songs alongside a tribute to one of the Kimberley musicians whose work has influenced their own journey. It’s an evening of storytelling, connection and music that acknowledges the artists who helped shape our region’s rich musical heritage while celebrating the voices carrying it forward. Shinju Matsuri Festival 2026

A free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate – it's up to you! Town Beach parkrun is a FREE weekly 5k event for participants of all standards, which takes place every Saturday at 7:00am in Town Beach precinct.90 Robinson St, Broome, WA 6725.

The story of 'Millie the Black Kite' is based on the story of a famous Broome bird who accidently hitched a ride to Bali. This beautiful, interactive puppet performance is the result of a collaboration between a Broome and Indonesian puppet companies. The story is told using a multitude of puppets. The story is a reflection on the impact of human intervention in the lives of animals, the importance of understanding the needs of wildlife in a changing world, a call for humanity and understanding, and what it means to be free. It is suitable for all ages, but children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. BUY TICKETS. All tickets include a free Puppet Workshop an hour prior to the show commencing. Watch the Shinju Matsuri Float Parade from above with cocktails, complimentary finger food and one of Broome’s best balcony views. Join us at The Broome Closet for Floats from the Closet, a relaxed afternoon celebrating the colour, excitement and community spirit of the Shinju Matsuri Float Parade. From our Level 1 balcony overlooking Dampier Terrace, you’ll have a fantastic vantage point as the parade makes its way through Chinatown. Settle in with a cocktail, enjoy the atmosphere from above and watch the floats, performers and festivities pass by below. This free community event features colorful local floats, marching groups, and the traditional appearance of Sammy the Dragon winding through Chinatown. The Shinju Matsuri Float Parade is one of the most traditional events on our program, being part of the festival since the very early days. The stunning array of floats represents the diversity of the Broome community, being created by local community groups, schools, performance groups & local businesses.
