Opening Ceremony presented by Paspaley Pearls. The Opening Ceremony kicks off the Shinju Matsuri Festival's 16-day celebration of Broome’s vibrant culture. Explore the unique history and rich multicultural tapestry of our community through an exciting array of events! Join us at Town Beach to celebrate the official opening of Shinju Matsuri with a special Yawuru “Welcome to Country”, speeches and a variety of performances, before the traditional of Waking of Sammy the Dragon. Millie the Black Kite
Family friendly eventShinju MatsuriThe story of 'Millie the Black Kite' is based on the story of a famous Broome bird who accidently hitched a ride to Bali. This beautiful, interactive puppet performance is the result of a collaboration between a Broome and Indonesian puppet companies. The story is told using a multitude of puppets. The story is a reflection on the impact of human intervention in the lives of animals, the importance of understanding the needs of wildlife in a changing world, a call for humanity and understanding, and what it means to be free. It is suitable for all ages, but children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. BUY TICKETS. All tickets include a free Puppet Workshop an hour prior to the show commencing. Details as follows:
