Warmun Art Centre, in partnership with Black Stump Gallery, proudly presents Cecil Mosquito, one of the most exciting and promising rising Gija artists, whose work carries the strength of Gija Country and the depth of cultural knowledge grounded in lived experience, expressing ancestral lands, old people’s stories, and enduring legacy. His paintings emerge from a deep connection to place, to family, and to the legacy of his old people, shaped by memory, observation, and the living presence of stories embedded within the land. Through his work, Cecil expresses Country in all its richness, capturing the subtle shifts of season, the marks of cultural burning, and the intricate language of symbols and signs. Star formations, Dreamtime stories, and echoes of cave art move across his compositions, revealing a profound relationship between Skys, water, land, and ancestral knowledge. Broome RSL will be opening its doors on a Friday from 12pm with a Tradies lunch special on offer of Tradies Lunch for $25 (available between 12pm and 2pm). Non-members welcome. Sign in at the bar. Repair & Rewear is a hands-on workshop for all ages that teaches simple, practical skills to help you care for and repair your clothing. Learn how to fix tears, replace buttons, and extend the life of your favourite items while building the confidence to repair instead of replace. The workshop will explore a range of mending techniques, including visible mending, embroidered repairs and patching. Bring along a clothing item you'd like to repair or get advice on, and we'll guide you through the process. All materials are provided, including sewing machines supplied by Broome CIRCLE.By keeping clothes in use for longer, you'll help reduce textile waste, lower your environmental footprint and develop valuable skills you can use for years to come.
