The Opening Ceremony kicks off the Shinju Matsuri Festival's 16-day celebration of Broome’s vibrant culture. Explore the unique history and rich multicultural tapestry of our community through an exciting array of events! Join us at Town Beach to celebrate the official opening of Shinju Matsuri with a special Yawuru “Welcome to Country”, speeches and a variety of performances, before the traditional of Waking of Sammy the Dragon.

Shinju Matsuri Festival 2026

The Shinju Matsuri Opening Ball is returning once again and this years theme is ROCK N ROLL! Not just any rock n roll, we’re talking about the birth of rock n roll, from where it all began. Little Richard, Buddy Holly, the Supremes and the King of Rock n Roll – Mr Elvis Presley! Included in their ticket, all guests will receive a welcome drink on arrival, along with a substantial supper served all throughout the evening.

Broome… it’s time to light up the dancefloor. This August, Glam Funk Band takes over Roebuck Bay Hotel (The Roey) for one massive outdoor night of glitter, groove and high-energy disco anthems.Expect iconic 70s dance floor anthems, electric live performances, powerhouse vocals, dazzling costumes, big vibes and nonstop dancing under the stars

The Broome Courthouse Markets are held in the beautiful heritage listed gardens of the Broome Courthouse. Trading every Saturday all year and Sundays during high season. The Broome Courthouse Markets are located on the corner of Frederick and Hamersley Street.

The ABBA BRUNCH is coming to The Roey! Get ready for a glittering daytime celebration featuring a live ABBA duo, bottomless bubbles, and all your favourite sing-along hits — from Dancing Queen to Mamma Mia. This is a boutique, high-energy brunch experience, perfect for catching up with friends, celebrating something special, or extending your weekend fun after Saturday night’s disco show.

Make sure you’re in Chinatown on Sunday 23rd August, to witness the fun, creativity and captivating energy of the Float Parade. The Shinju Matsuri Float Parade is one of the most traditional events on our program, being part of the festival since the very early days. The stunning array of floats represents the diversity of the Broome community, being created by local community groups, schools, performance groups & local businesses. Carnival of Nations, is a much loved Shinju Matsuri event. Join us for a celebration of diversity and culture via a series of unique immersive performances & cultural displays. Grab your picnic rug and a bite to eat from the line-up of local food vans, before taking in a visual feast for all ages, paying homage to the rich and diverse cultural tapestry of Broome then and now.

Head down to our Festival hub with your furry, or not so furry, friends, for a fun afternoon celebrating our favourite family members. Show off your furry, feathered or scaled friend as you strut your stuff together down the 'Pets in the Park' catwalk. The Thursday Night Market in Broome is a fantastic night out for the whole family at the spectacular Town Beach. Enjoy a great selection of food, shopping and live music. From 4pm - 8pm. The Thursday Night Markets are held at the Town Beach Precinct on Hamersley Street. Wander around the colourful local stalls under the stars, sample the tastes of Broome cuisine and listen to local live music. Bring the family, friends and enjoy a meal on the grass.

Chinatown Feast is returning to take over the heart of Chinatown! The Chinatown Feast is our starlit Hawker-style dining event with a Kimberley twist. Held in the heart of Chinatown Broome, on Short St.

The Floating Lanterns is a free community event. One of the most beautiful moments of the festival. Inspired by the Japanese Obon celebration, this ceremony honours loved ones with lanterns drifting on the waters. Held at Gantheaume Beach, this special evening is a tribute to loved ones past and present. Create a personalised lantern, gently release your lantern into the sea and take a moment to reflect.

The Staircase to the Moon is a natural phenomenon observed in Broome Western Australia between April and October only. It is caused by the rising of a full moon reflecting on the exposed mudflats at extremely low tide creating a beautiful optical illusion of a staircase reaching up to the moon.

The Broome Marlin Cup Fishing Competition will be held in Broome from 3rd - 7th September 2026. Broome is growing in the Marlin fishery - join us to see what it's all about! For all boat sizes and all ages. Broome Marlin Cup schedule: 3rd of September is compulsory briefing night, 4th is a layover day, 5th and 6th are normal fishing days, 7th is presentation night.
