Family friendly eventShinju MatsuriThe story of 'Millie the Black Kite' is based on the story of a famous Broome bird who accidently hitched a ride to Bali. This beautiful, interactive puppet performance is the result of a collaboration between a Broome and Indonesian puppet companies. The story is told using a multitude of puppets. The story is a reflection on the impact of human intervention in the lives of animals, the importance of understanding the needs of wildlife in a changing world, a call for humanity and understanding, and what it means to be free. It is suitable for all ages, but children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. BUY TICKETS. All tickets include a free Puppet Workshop an hour prior to the show commencing. Details as follows:

Staircase to the Moon, Broome
Featured EventBroome EventStaircase to the Moon is a natural phenomenon that occurs when a full moon rises over the exposed tidal flats of Roebuck Bay | Yawuru Nagulagun. The Staircase to the Moon happens 2 - 3 days a month between March and October (sometimes into November). On selected dates during Staircase to the Moon, the Staircase to the Moon Night Markets are held from 4pm - 8pm at Town Beach | Guwarri. Here you can sample local produce, buy hand made products, a variety of international food, and enjoy the sounds of local entertainers. The Town Beach | Guwarri precinct is a great vantage spot to view the Staircase to the Moon. Another popular spot is The Mangrove Hotel, who often have live entertainment on Staircase nights. Other local spots include Moonlight Bay Suites, the Broome Golf Club, the Broome Fishing Club, the Roebuck Bay Lookout and also a short walk across the road from Matso's Broome Brewery. Cygnet Bay, north of Broome on the Dampier Peninsula, also offers a staircase viewing location too.

A festival favourite, the Shinju Matsuri Dragon Boat Races bring the ancient Chinese tradition of dragon boating to the turquoise waters of Broome’s Town Beach. With origins dating back more than 2,000 years, dragon boat racing began as a cultural ceremony in China to honour ancestors, celebrate community, and mark the changing of the seasons.
